It is one of the biggest motorcycle rallies on Earth and is a gigantic boost to the local economy each year. Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of motorcycling and honoring the heritage of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The museum contains vintage motorcycles that were loaned to them by national and local collectors for the grand opening. The museum offers informative and comprehensive exhibits, showcasing nearly 100 unique and historic motorcycles that date back to the early 1900’s. The museum’s Hall of Fame recognizes individuals and groups who have made a long-term positive contribution to the motorcycle community and culture. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is truly a great event, but the Museum & Hall of Fame helps you understand its history and importance to the people who take part in it.

Black Hills National Forest

Black Hills National Forest is located in Southwestern South Dakota and Northeastern Wyoming. The forest has an area over 1.25 million acres and is managed by the Forest Service. The forest is in parts of seven counties in South Dakota and Wyoming and be accessed from Interstate 90. There are 30 campgrounds in the forest and there are 11 reservoirs that are well stocked for sport fishing. There is also 450 miles of hiking trails that provide access to more remote locations and to the summit of Harney Peak. Camping, hiking, fishing, biking, RVing, bird watching, swimming, photo taking, and many other outdoor activities are available here at Black Hills National Forest.

Old Fort Meade Museum

Old Fort Meade Museum is located in Sturgis, South Dakota on Highway 34 & 79. Old Fort Meade Museum’s mission is to preserve and educate visitors on the history of Fort Meade. Fort Meade was established during the winter of 1878-79 by units of the 1 and 11 infantry and the reorganized 7 cavalry. It was at Fort Meade that the “Star Spangled Banner” first became the official music for the military retreat ceremony, long before it became the National Anthem. The museum tells you all about these events and much more. It is a time machine back to a distant era of our country and helps you appreciate the sacrifices and lives of those who served at Fort Meade.

Campgrounds and State/National Parks

Buffalo Chip Campground

Buffalo Chip Campground is four miles from Downtown Sturgis that offers tent and RV camping. The Chip consistently has fantastic visitors, the best Sturgis concerts, and the most delicious food. There are plenty of RV sites at the Buffalo Chip Campground, many of which are full hook up sites. There is also 60 clean shower and clean restrooms. This is one of the more popular campgrounds in the Sturgis area and will keep you comfortable and happy during your entire stay.

Ride N Rest Campground is located just 10 minutes from Downtown Sturgis and offers camping for tents, full RV hookups, deluxe cabins, dry cabins, and even dry camping. They’ve calculated that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally brings in over $800 million to South Dakota each year and is crucial to the Sturgis economy. The Travel Channel has aired two one-hour documentaries about Sturgis: both surrounding the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
