The PGA Championship is an annual golf tournament conducted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America. It is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Whilst the event has taken place in mid-August in the past, this year it will be occurring in May (on the weekend before Memorial Day) for the first time. Last year saw the championship awarded to Brooks Koepka, with Tiger Woods being the runner-up.
Regularly featuring the strongest field based on the Official World Golf Ranking, the PGA is the only all-professional major championship with 156 players competing annually for one of golf’s most prized possessions, the Wanamaker Trophy.
The PGA Championship schedule ensures that there’s never a dull moment for spectators. Amongst practice rounds, the Longest Drive Contest, PGA Championship rounds, and a trophy presentation, you’re sure to be entertained whilst in attendance.
Although you’ll be spending the majority of your time on the golf course as a spectator, there are still plenty of on-site amenities to make your experience one that is both comfortable and fun. These include free WiFi zones, portable phone chargers, first aid stations, shuttle buses, shops, restrooms, and more.
Bethpage State Park, Black Course, Farmingdale, NY, USA
With the event taking place at Long Island (dubbed New York City’s ‘Beach Backyard’), there’s no better way for visitors to enjoy the 120-miles of coastline and rich farmland that this region has to offer than in an RV.
While there isn’t any camping or RVing on-site at the PGA Championship, there are plenty of RV-accessible campgrounds located nearby. Some of our top picks within the region include:
Battle Row Campground (2.4 miles)
Nickerson Beach Campground (20 miles)
Blydenburgh County Park (20.5 miles)
Cathedral Pines County Park (33.8 miles)
Whether you own an RV, or rent an RV through RVshare, RVing is the way to go when visiting the 2019 PGA Championship. Not only does it save you additional costs on hotel accommodation, but it also gives you a cozy bed, private bathroom, and fully-stocked fridge to come back home to after a long day of spectating!
If you prefer to stay in a hotel rather than an RV, then there are also plenty of these within the area. Some of our top picks include:
2 Marriott Plaza, Farmingdale, NY 11735, USA
100 Spagnoli Rd, Melville, NY 11747, USA
